Math Art Reflection

We recreated Margaret Kepner's artwork "magic square" and "knight's tour" for our math art project. Her artwork is not that easy to understand at first. We did some research and reached to her for more information about her work. Then we found out the math behind her art and successfully recreated our art. At first, we were just using "knight's move" to find the order of those 64 cells in an eight by 8 square. When we finished the whole square, we found out that there are many interesting patterns can be found in that square even though we didn't intend to arrange it that way.
It was pretty exciting to recreate the artwork. Investigate the math behind the artwork and recreate a new one with our ideas is a real challenge on understanding and applying mathematical knowledge. I will modify the project and try to blend this design into my lessons when I'm teaching secondary math.
